Storey Samways Planning Ltd. was created in 1989 by the merging of two Southwestern
Ontario planning firms – Thomas A. Storey Planning Ltd. and Planning for People Ltd., incorporated in 1984 and 1970 respectively. Over the past thirty years SSPL and its predecessor firms have been involved in most of the major land use planning issues in Chatham-Kent; resulting in a wealth of knowledge, experience, networks and contacts. Since 1998, SSPL has undertaken all aspects of development review in Chatham-Kent, and since 2005, a similar responsibility in the Town of
Lakeshore.
Over the years, SSPL has developed excellent working relationships not only with the planning departments but with the broader administrations of both the
Municipality of
Chatham-Kent and the Town of
Lakeshore. We have strong positive relationships with all parties in the Chatham-Kent and Lakeshore development industries – engineers, lawyers, architects, developers, builders, real estate firms, other planning consultants, etc. Through our many endeavours in various community initiatives, both personally and corporately, we have also created a valuable informal information network.
We have an unsurpassed knowledge of the zoning by-laws and official plans in force in Chatham-Kent and Lakeshore, having written more than 2,000 planning reports for the Municipality of Chatham-Kent since its amalgamation in 1998 and several hundred planning reports for the Town of
Lakeshore since 2005.
SSPL has produced and continues to develop leading edge policies and studies for Chatham-Kent and Lakeshore, such as the Ridge Landfill expansion, Erie Shore Drive shoreline study, new agricultural consent policies, nutrient management study and policies, greenhouse policies/zoning by-law, new Minimum Distance Separation policies and regulations, and most recently wind farm and other renewable energy policies and reports.
